BEIJING, March 7 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

ADDIS ABABA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa has reached 3,955,148 as of Sunday, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.

The Africa CDC, the specialized healthcare agency of the 55-member African Union (AU), said the death toll related to the pandemic stood at 105,490, while 3,533,574 patients across the continent have recovered from the disease.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 5,826 within one day to 1,379,662, with the death toll adding by 112 to 37,266, the health ministry said on Sunday.

According to the ministry, 5,146 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 1,194,656.

TOKYO -- The confirmed COVID-19 cases in Japan increased by 1,065 to reach 439,981 as of Sunday evening, according to the latest figures from the health ministry and local authorities.

The death toll in Japan from the pneumonia-causing virus currently stands at 8,276, with 25 new fatalities announced Sunday.

MOSCOW -- Russia registered 10,595 more COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, down from 11,022 a day earlier, the country's COVID-19 response center said Sunday.

The national tally has thus increased to 4,322,776 with 89,094 deaths and 3,911,924 recoveries, the center said.
