NEW YORK, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar strengthened noticeably against its major rivals in late trading on Friday.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, rose 0.82 percent at 90.8690.
In late New York trading, the euro fell to 1.2078 U.S. dollars from 1.2184 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound fell to 1.3945 dollars from 1.4036 U.S. dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar was down to 0.7711 U.S. dollar from 0.7902 dollar.
The U.S. dollar bought 106.61 Japanese yen, higher than 106.20 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar was up to 0.9090 Swiss franc from 0.9046 Swiss franc, and it increased to 1.2703 Canadian dollars from 1.2576 Canadian dollars.
