NEW DELHI -- The Indian police on Sunday allowed protesting farmers to stage a tractor rally in the capital city New Delhi on the Republic Day.
"Today there was a short meeting with officers of Delhi Police. We have got formal permission from police for the tractor rally. As I told earlier, Kisan Gantantra Parade will be held on Jan. 26 in a peaceful manner," Yogendra Yadav, head of Swaraj India party, told the media. (India-Farmers-Rally)

TOKYO -- The Tokyo metropolitan government reported 986 new infections in the capital on Sunday, marking the first time the daily tally has dropped below 1,000 cases in 12 days and bringing the cumulative total to 93,890 infections.

HONG KONG -- Matthew Cheung, chief secretary for administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government, said on Sunday that since the COVID-19 pandemic rebounded in Hong Kong, testing measures have to be strengthened to cut off silent transmissions.
The HKSAR government has required specified persons of high risk to undergo compulsory testing on a mandatory basis, as a more focused and precise approach, to effectively deal with outbreaks of specific high-risk groups, Cheung said in his blog. (Hong Kong-COVID-19-Testing)

KABUL -- Three persons, all civilians, were injured as a blast struck a vehicle in Afghanistan's capital Kabul on Sunday, Kabul police spokesman Ferdaus Faramarz said.

NEW DELHI -- The Indian government Sunday said nearly 1.6 million people were vaccinated against COVID-19 since the beginning of the inoculation drive last week across the country.
The inoculation drive against COVID-19 across India began on Jan. 16.
The federal health ministry said nearly 1.6 million beneficiaries had received the COVID-19 vaccination till Sunday. "In the last 24 hours, 191,609 people were vaccinated across 3,512 sessions." (India-COVID-19-Vaccination)
