TOKYO, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks were flat Friday morning as buybacks on a halt in the yen's appreciation were offset by investors unloading holdings ahead of a four-day holiday through next Tuesday in Japan.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 6.63 points, or 0.03 percent, from Thursday to 23,326.00.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, rose 3.61 points, or 0.22 percent, at 1,642.01.

Marine transportation and transportation equipment issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
