Decorated American gymnast Simone Biles won't rush to make final decision about participating in the delayed Olympic Games.

Biles, 23, told The Associated Press she needs time to gather her thoughts after the coronavirus pandemic caused Tokyo to be pushed back from July 2020 to July 2021.

"Well, nothing is really set in stone yet," Biles said. "We're trying to figure out the right training (regimen) just so mentally and physically we can try and stay on top of our game. We're just playing it by ear and really just listening to my body."

The family-owned gym where Biles trains in Houston is closed. She's unable to do much in terms of Olympics preparation during the shelter-at-home order.

Biles said a year is a long time, especially for "elite athletes." She had planned to be on an extended break by mid-August. Now she's in limbo for months, not knowing when she'll have a chance to return to complete workouts.

"It's a letdown," Biles told AP on Wednesday. "It's hard to keep looking at that like, 'We have another year.'"
