BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, July 23 (PIA)--The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is set to start a road concreting project to help villagers of Dupax del Sur town who are involved in agroforestry livelihood projects.

Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Edgar Martin said the more than P18.3 million road project at sitio Dalayap, barangay Carolotan in Dupax del Sur town is an Agroforestry Support Facility (SF) which will be implemented under the Forest Management Program (FMP).

Martin said the project is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) which is expected to be completed by March 2020.

The project involves the concreting of the Carolotan Access Road with the construction of a bridge structure.

It was requested by the Carolotan Agroforest Association, Inc. (CAFDAI), a private organization that relies on agroforestry as an advocacy and a source of livelihood.

Forester Constante Espiritu, Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO), said the project was originally funded with P24.8 but the bidding came out only with more than P18 million project cost .

"The remaining P5 million will be allocated for other projects such as water system and more," Espiritu said.

Martin, on the other hand, said that CAFDAI was the first organization which was granted with the project which is more beneficial to the organization and community especially during the rainy season.

"You should therefore take good care of this project and do not use it for unlawful purposes," the PENRO added.

James Bantasan, CAFDAI president, said they were very grateful for the project as they have been longing for it for many years.

He further said that the project will improve their transportation of their livelihood products to the market. (ALM/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
